On this edition of Political Rewind, Rep. John Lewis (D-Atlanta) and Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Lithonia) are calling for impeachment proceedings in the aftermath of President Trump's alleged efforts to pressure the president of Ukraine to look into the business dealings of Joe Biden's son, Hunter.

Stewart likened the calls for impeachment of Trump to Democrats who hollered for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh to be removed from office based on what Stewart dubbed "absolutely sloppy and lazy reporting".

According to a story published late Monday by the Washington Post, Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi may finally-finally-be coming around on impeachment.

Jeffrey Goldberg, editor in chief of The Atlantic, opened his interview with Pelosi by asking whether she thinks the allegations that Trump tried to pressure Ukraine to investigate his potential 2020 rival, Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden, by withholding US aid to the country was an impeachable offense.

As Pelosi was speaking, Trump dismissed the move by Democrats as "witch hunt garbage".

Trump withheld military aid for Ukraine days before telling President Volodymyr Zelenskiy he should investigate Biden and his son Hunter, who was on the board of a Ukrainian gas company.

Trump has said that once he releases the transcript, the allegations will stop.

Schumer calls for hearings "to determine exactly what prompted the whistleblower to file this urgent complaint", and says they should feature testimony from a host of administration officials, including acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, said he initially was reluctant to back a "made for TV moment" offered by Senate Democrat but said he would relent and stated he expects a bipartisan Senate panel examination of the matter.

"Marcy Wheeler, journalist " I am now at the United Nations representing our Country, but have authorized the release tomorrow of the complete, fully declassified and unredacted transcript of my phone conversation with President Zelensky of Ukraine", Trump tweeted from NY.

"Anything short of whistleblower complaint is more obstruction", Wheeler said. Given the Democrats' hysteria-pitched rhetoric over Trump literally since the day he won the election, there is no way that impeachment will be seen as anything but vindictive.

That call is believed to be at the center of an explosive whistleblower complaint that's put Congress and the White House at odds.

"What I want to do is get the truth first", Warner said, adding that he wants a probe done in a bipartisan way. He "did not make a statement that you have to do this or I'm not going to give you aid", he told reporters.
