As the Indian and Pakistani prime ministers take turns addressing the ongoing UN General Assembly in NY, a video was posted alleged to be of suspected terrorists attempting to infiltrate along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
His speech came shortly after an address in NY by the Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi, who did not mention Kashmir but said his country wanted peace and harmony.
India and Pakistan, which have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir, have been locked in a worsening standoff since then.
Muslim-majority Kashmir has always been a flashpoint between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan.
The Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has been under lockdown since early August after New Delhi scrapped the region's semi-autonomous status. The biggest worry is what happens once the curfew is lifted?
Pakistan on the other hand has alleged that India has committed human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir by imposing a communication blockade.
The region is divided between India and Pakistan, but the nuclear-armed neighbors both claim Kashmir in its entirety. Khan said there were 900,000 Indian forces in the region policing 8 million Kashmiris.
The prime minister discussed the Kashmir situation during a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in NY.
He said that India was "diverting the world's attention" from Kashmir and telling the world that "Kashmiris actually want this and Pakistan is a spanner in the works by sending in terrorists".
Khan said Friday at the United Nations General Assembly that with 900,000 Indian troops once a curfew is lifted Kashmiris " will be out in the streets.
Khan, who dedicated 20 minutes of his 50-minute UNGA address to Kashmir, urged the multilateral agency to "not appease a market of 1.2 billion" but "stand up for justice and humanity".
Remarking on President Trump's offer for mediation, the prime minister said that "President Trump, [as] head of the most powerful country in the world, [is] best placed to do something like this". "(Prime Minister Narendra) Modi has boxed himself in a blind alley", Khan had told reporters at a press conference here on the sidelines of the 74th UNGA session.
On Thursday, dozens of Kashmiris protested in Srinagar against Indian rule, chanting "Go India, go back" and "We want freedom".

A North Korean Foreign Ministry adviser is accusing the United States of doing nothing to implement the issues agreed on at summits between U.S. President Donald Trump and the country's leader Kim Jong Un, but says he is putting his hope on Trump's "wise option and bold decision". "Similar restrictions are in place in other towns and areas", a police officer said on condition of anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to media. In fact, the scorching attack on India on the basis of his reading of the Kashmir situation drew several rounds of applause even as a stony-faced lower-ranking Indian delegate watched the theatrical, extempore speech.
