"It feels great, it was a very solid performance", he told reporters.

Federer incredibly saved another four match points before winning the tiebreak 10-8, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

"You've got to get a bit lucky sometimes", said Federer, who needed a final-set tiebreak to get past Australian John Millman in the third round. I've recognized him for years and also he's a friend. I think I kept things pretty much in control in all three sets.

"I'm going to have to serve well and then I'm going to have to get my return at a high percentage, make him play a lot of those points, and then try to be efficient on my service games", Raonic claimed. "I'm still standing here and obviously just very happy", he added.

Roger Federer spoke after his quarterfinal victory vs. Tennys Sandgren about his comebacks and injury struggles.

The primary duel they performed was in 2015 at the US Open, the place Djokovic was sufficient Three units to take the sport by a strong 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4. I have to be ready for missiles coming from his side of the net, playing him here and remembering them well ...

In the last set, Sangren was no match to Federer as the six-time Australian Open champion closed the match by winning it 6-3. Sandgren earned a break point already in the first game of the match when Roger netted a forehand, denied by a well-constructed attack from the Swiss who held after the second deuce with a service victor to get his name on the scoreboard.

The unflappable Barty beat the Czech 7-6 (8/6), 6-2 and will be favourite in her semi-final against America's Sofia Kenin - sending hopes soaring of a first home victor in 42 years.

Both those matches were played at night, and the sunshine seemed to help Federer as he eased to the first set against Sandgren, who was looking to become the lowest-ranked man to reach the semi-finals here for almost 30 years.

By this time, the crowd inside Rod Laver Arena was going insane, and when Federer broke for 4-2 in the third, the decibel level was so loud it would surely have gone through the roof had it not been already open.

He grimly hung on in the fourth set, saving three match points at 5-4 and it went to a tiebreaker where more drama was in store as a ball kid collided with Sandgren at the changeover.

Roger Federer is on a collision course with Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open but must first avoid an upset against Tennys Sandgren, while women s top seed Ashleigh Barty carries home hopes in Tuesday s quarter-finals.

Djokovic has progressed to the quarterfinals of the ongoing competition, which is held in Melbourne every year. The big problem now will be whether Federer can recover, physically, for the semifinal, which will come after two days rest. As long as the crowds are into it, you have a great battle with an opponent who you really admire and respect, it's a good feeling.
