Huawei might be really done with Google Play Services

Huawei will not use Google’s services in its Android devices even if US lifts the ban Huawei says it won't return to Google services even if trade ban lifts

So confident that Huawei are with the product they have created in their banned state that they are now saying they may not use Google services again even if they are allowed to. "Our first choice is the open Android ecosystem, including GMS (Google Mobile Services) - that was what helped us become number two in the world for smartphone shipments", a Huawei spokesperson told The Verge. Its three-billion-dollar investments in Huawei Mobile Services and additional one-billion-dollar expenses for worldwide ad campaigns promoting its Google-less future probably won't help the company stay in the black, either. In the meantime, Huawei launched its very own OS to be used in the worst-case scenario. There are three major components that Huawei needs to sperate itself from Google and other American companies: Hardware, OS and Apps.

This is basically what the company said it would do around the time it first started talking about developing HarmonyOS. The smartphones arrived without the popular apps, which makes the devices less appealing for those who constantly use apps such as Google Maps and Gmail.

Fei was firm that Huawei has ruled out a return to Google's app and service ecosystem even if it was on the table.

That said, during all of the back and forth between the U.S. and Huawei this past year, locally the firm's team has stated time and time again that it has no desire to leave the Android ecosystem, and that it was simply working on a "Plan B" in the interim.

However, the company will soon launch the P40 series, which will feature no Google apps, just like the Mate 30 series that was unveiled last fall. The company hasn't confirmed the phone but a release later this year keeps it in the mix if there were to be changes in the near future. At events for developers from New Delhi to Warsaw to Sao Paulo, Huawei is promising cash rewards if they meet a deadline Friday to get apps onto its online store.

Huawei has been making some great phones over the past few years, rapidly increasing its market share in several key markets around the world in addition to China. The shift has actually been much from smooth as Huawei was apparently left without a secure application ecological community over night however it appears the business isn't searching in the rearview mirror.
