For the third day in a row, protests across New York City were largely peaceful during the daylight hours Sunday but turned violent at night. The curfew will be lifted at 5 am Tuesday. In another tweet the same day, the account boosted a tweet from President Donald Trump describing NY law enforcement as "under assault". Demonstrators are upset about systemic racism and a criminal justice system they argue endangers, ignores, and unfairly targets black people.

Considered to be the worst ever civil unrest in the United States in decades, the violent protests have engulfed at least 140 cities across America in the days following the death of Floyd.

It's being widely reported that over 1,000 people were arrested over the weekend across various American cities as protests erupted, but there was one name that caused quite the controversy. This moment demands leadership & accountability from each of us.

During Sunday night's demonstration, video posted to social media showed a police officer pulling a gun and pointing it at demonstrators on a debris-littered Manhattan street moments after a protester used an object to deliver a crushing blow to another officer's head a few yards away.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is conducting a review on officers who have been acting aggressively toward the protesters.

"When outside armed forces go into communities no good comes out of it", said de Blasio.

Police said almost 700 people were arrested and several officers injured in the overnight violence.

Cuomo said he has informed cities in NY that he has the National Guard and state police on hand if they require assistance.

De Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo, both Democrats, announced an 11pm curfew late on Monday afternoon.

'We all better get back to the humanity here, ' de Blasio said. "We will not tolerate hatred being created", he added, calling the people who assaulted officers criminals. The city has been the epicenter of the pandemic in the USA with 208,550 cases of coronavirus and at least 21,090 deaths. For now, Cuomo is not prepared for overrule him on the use of the National Guard.

The mayor said he was unaware about his daughter's plans to participate in the protests during a press conference.
