Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison's official announcement of the charges is expected to come Wednesday afternoon, more than a week after Floyd was killed while in police custody in Minneapolis.

TMZ has officially reported that their mugshots are in.

The other three former officers on the scene of Floyd's murder have also been charged. Along with that, the tabloid publication revealed that the bail for all three of them is set at $1M.

A full autopsy of George Floyd, the handcuffed black man who died after being restrained by Minneapolis police, was released Wednesday and provides several clinical details, including that Floyd had previously tested positive for COVID-19.

If convicted, Chauvin could be imprisoned up to 40 years in prison, whereas anyone convicted of third-degree murder would only be subject to a maximum of 25.

Crump added that the officers knew they could "act with impunity" given the Minneapolis Police Department's "widespread and prolonged pattern and practice" of violating people's rights.

Four Minneapolis police officers have been charged over 46-year-old Mr Floyd 's death, including Derek Chauvin who faces a second-degree murder charge.

"Winning a conviction will be hard", he said.

Benjamin Crump, one of the lawyers for Floyd's family, said in a statement that it is "a bittersweet moment for the family of George Floyd", calling it a "significant step forward on the road to justice". Amid widespread confrontation with law enforcement and sporadic episodes of destruction of property, the U.S. has experienced its worst civil unrest since the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr in 1968. "So they would have to show that the three officers were not trying to assist an arrest, they were trying to assist a felony-level assault".

'Even beyond policing, some of these problems have to do with inadequate housing, poverty and racist attitudes that Americans share that are not even in the police department. "The real duty of one with this type of assignment is to underscore the value of the human life that was taken, which gives the reason the movement was occurring".

Floyd's death has lead to clashes between protesters and police across the US.

The officers did not move from their positions until 8:27 p.m. despite Floyd's pleas, those from bystanders or the fact that Kueng detected no pulse on Floyd, the complaint said.
